Frequently Asked Questions
This is a new area for the website and will eventually build into a data driven application with extensive keyword search functions. However, in the meantime, the following are a series of the most often asked questions of support people.
Installation & Registration
I have run out of time in my trial
You basically have only one option for the two programs downloaded from the website. You can pay for the software so that we will send a license number which will reactivate your program. You will not lose any information already entered in the program. Trial versions of the Horse Owners and First Steps are generally not extendable!
If you have special arrangements to trial other versions of the software as organized with Main-Events staff then contact us and we will consider extending the trial period – please email.

I get a message saying the version I am trying to run does not MATCH my license details... and the program eventually shuts down.
If this is the only message you get, then it has something to so with upgrading from the Standard Version to the Professional version of Main-Events software (or vice versa). Check that you downloaded the correct upgrade from the website. Otherwise, please email us for help.

I get a series of messages starting with LICENSE information for this component not found … followed by more messages and then it stops due to a run-time error.
This is an issue related to running Service Pack 2 of Windows XP and has been fixed with the use of a new installation software. Please ring for download directions or a CD.

The installation won’t load and finish
Older versions of the software have installation issues on computers with Windows XP with the Service Pack 2 upgrade installed. This has caused installations to not run correctly – and not just on our own software. There is a work around listed on the Microsoft website which we can send you but it is close to 100 MB of files.
Our solution has been to implement new Installation software which seems to have overcome the problems with the MS Office Developers edition. Please email us for a new CD; or access to the members download area of the website.

The installation doesn’t start automatically when I put in the CD
Older versions require that you use RUN to start the setup.exe on the CD; or from My Computer browse through to the CD drive and double click on the Setup.exe file.
The new installation system (as of Oct 2006) will start automatically from the CD when inserted.

How do I put a shortcut on the desktop
Older versions of Main-Events compiled using the MS Office Developers Runtime software did not put a shortcut on the desktop. You can create your own shortcut simply by holding down your Control (CTRL) key as you drag the shortcut item used to start your Main-Events program from the taskbar (Start then Programs then All Programs then the appropriate Main-Events program startup icon) on to your desktop. Keep holding the CTRL key down so that it makes a copy and leave the original shortcut in place.
The new installation does put a shortcut on the desktop automatically!
