In the January ESNZ Bulletin (out late December) we listed a number of horses that we were
trying to track down. One has come back already - NZ based eventer Joseph Samuel. It is always
nice to hear about these horses so we have decided to include the riders tale.
Eventer Joseph Samuel and Julia Hadley
My name is Julia Hadley, I own Joseph Samuel. I read in
the latest bulletin that you were looking for information
on some horses :-)
DOB: 22/10/1992
Breeding: NZ Thoroughbred
Sire: Little Brown Jug
Dam: Imperatrix
Dam Sire: Imperial Seal
Breeder: Mrs B A Smith
Height: 172cm
Owner: Julia Hadley
Joseph was born in the South Island and bought by Vicki
Craig who was Kevin Gray's head girl at his racing
stables in Taranaki. She owned him and raced him
under the name "Last Orders".
.
When he was seven (and had won 2 races from about 22 starts and wasn't going to be a
Melbourne Cup winner!!) Vicki asked local vet Jim Robbins (who also found Champagne Glory
and Glengarrick off the track) if he knew of a nice home. Jim thought of me (as I'd already bought
another horse from him - David Benjamin - who very sadly had just had to be put down at the age
of seven).
I got Joseph on the 16/4/2000 (a few days before my birthday on the 19/4/1984) and have had
him ever since. We've come up from training right through to Three Star together. He just means
the world to me!!!
Joseph also has an unusual brand on his near rump JS/2 as you can see in the attached photo. It
confuses everyone as they think he's a warmblood!! He was branded there as his typical
thoroughbred brands on his shoulders didn't come out clearly.
Many thanks
Julia :-)
